Units of al-Qaeda capture seaport in province of Abyan

ABYAN (Arrahmah.com) – News agency Xinhua reported that units of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) attacked positions of troops of the regime of president Saleh in a seaport near the town of Zinjibar on Thursday, which a few days ago was liberated by the Mujahideen.

The fightings in this area are continuing. According to information sources, the Mujahideen captured the seaport. Representatives of the Saleh regime believe that control over the port will allow al-Qaeda to arrange transfer over the sea volunteer corps of the Mujahideen from other Arab countries.

Earlier on Wednesday the AQAP Mujahideen liberated another big town, Azzan, in the country’s southeastern province of Shabwa.

The town of Azzan is located in the south of the province between the towns Ar Rawdah and Mayfa’ah.

Following the capture of the town “they announced that “the town of Azzan joined in their Islamic Emirate”, said one of the local officials.

Some tribal leaders and residents confirmed the news in phone conversations with Xinhua.

The tribal leaders said the AQAP Mujahideen carry out high-level operations today because of the weak presence of security forces of the Yemeni authorities that are still remaining in Sana’a, which were pulled out to major cities to curb the four-month-long anti-government protests and tribal uprisings.

Meanwhile fightings are intensifying in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a, reports al Jazeera Hashed clan deployed additional 2,000 soldiers to the capital who occupy the government buildings. Formations of the Hashed clan obey their head on behalf of al-Ahmar.

Sanaa’s Hasaba district has been the focal point of armed clashes over the past week that have killed at least 115 people. On Thursday, there were heard bursts and powerful cannon battles.

Residents also reported overnight fighting near the country’s main airport in Sana’a, which was closed briefly last week during skirmishes between Saleh’s forces and Hashed rebels.

Troops of Saleh’s regime opened fire on peaceful demonstrators in the town of Taiz, killing 50 people. According to local sources, after another massacre local residents took up arms.
